  • Bursary: An amount allocated for the purposes of fulfilling a skills development and training learning programme

  • Commercial Diving: Is a profession which requires a person to go underwater to do specific tasks
  • CPL: Commercial Pilot Licence
  • Sectoral Priority Occupations and Interventions (SPOI) :These are skills gaps within organisation’s, which limit the organisation’s efficiency and effectiveness thereby hindering business growth. Top-up skills or skills required by those who are currently at work but who do not possess the requisite skills to carry out their duties optimally. These are usually addressed through short courses, skills programmes, workshops, seminars and in-house training.
  • HET: Higher Education and Training Institution.
  • HEI: Higher Education Institution
  • Institution: CHE and/or DHET-recognised university, university of technology or college offering formal and informal vocational and academic qualifications/occupations.
  • Pilot training: Is a training that is carried out at the existing flight schools leading to pilot or flight instructor licence
  • PPL: Private Pilot Licence
  • Previously disadvantaged groups/ designated groups: African, Coloured and Indian people, women and people with disabilities.
  • Postgraduate: Refers to a student who has successfully completed an undergraduate degree level course at a college or university and is undertaking further study at a more advanced level.
  • Decline: Is an act of officially declining the funding application
  • SAQA: South African Qualification Authority
  • SASSA: South African Social Security Agency
  • Scarce Skills: Skills that are in short supply nationally when compared to demands across the entire labour market.
  • Student: Refers to a person enrolled at a post institution to study towards formal or informal accredited qualification including vocational occupations
  • Study Field: Approved degree or diploma at an institution with a bearing on TETA’s core business
  • TVET: Technical Vocational Training
  • Undergraduate: Refers to a student who is studying for their first degree at a college or university

WHO CAN APPLY?

Students who
  • Learners currently in Grade 12 or who completed matric or NCV (L4);
  • Learners at institutions of higher learning
  • Learners who are intending to study qualifications on the advert in 2025.
  • Are currently registered students at Institutions of Higher Learning (including TVET colleges) and require funding for the 2025 academic year?
  • Have completed matric (Senior Certificate) and are currently studying or intending to study transport-related qualifications and Sectoral Priority Occupations and Interventions in 2025 academic year or intending to study qualifications on the advert in 2025 academic year;
  • Aviation students with valid PPL or CPL; and
  • Commercial Diving class II, III and IV should have matric (Senior Certificate).
ELIGIBILITY FOR A TETA BURSARY Applicants must ensure that they satisfy the following minimum entry criteria before applying:
  • The applicant must be a South African citizen or Permanent Residence;
  • Applying for qualifications specified in the advert only;
  • Students studying towards an academic qualification;
  • Learners in grade 12 to receive funding to study at Public/Private TVET College, Public/Private accredited University, accredited Diving School;
  • Passed grade 12 to receive funding to study at TVET College, Public/Private accredited University, accredited Diving School and Flying School;
  • Applicants must be youth at the time of submitting the application;
  • Total household income must be R350 000 or less per annum;
  • Registering for your first time at a public or private university for an undergraduate qualification or registered at a public TVET college for a National Certificate Vocational;
  • Previously disadvantaged with demonstrated potential with a minimum pass mark of 40%;
  • In possession of a valid Private Pilot License (PPL) when applying for Commercial Pilot Training;
  • In possession of a valid Commercial Pilot License when applying for Instructor’s or Instrument Rating;
  • In possession of valid Commercial Pilot License, Instructor’s and Instrument rating when applying for ATPL.
REASONS FOR AUTOMATIC REJECTION
  • Incorrect or incomplete information;
  • Applicants not meeting the criteria in any two of the eligibility requirements criteria above;
  • Failure to submit all the required documents;
  • If the applicant is currently funded in any TETA programme or by another sponsor;
  • Total household income is over R350 000 per annum.
  • The application will be automatically declined if the required documents are uploaded in the incorrect fields.
  • If the submitted documents are illegible, the application may be declined.. 4 GUIDELINES FOR COMPLETING THE ONLINE APPLICATION FORM Read the guidelines before completing and submitting your application form:

  • All aviation and diving school must submit accreditation certificate
  • Certified documents not older than 6 months
  • All supporting documents must be in a normal pdf format
  • Please name your supporting documents appropriately and ensure that they are uploaded on the correct fields

TVETs (Previously known as FET Colleges)
  • Certified Senior Certificate/Matric Certificate or Grade 12 Mid-Year Results or NCV (L4) intending to study from (N4-N6);
  • Certified ID copy of applicant;
  • Certified ID copies of parents/guardian;
  • Copy of death certificate/affidavit from existing parent/guardian/applicant is required (in case of a deceased parent/s) or when the other parent is absent
  • Proof of income (payslip) or an affidavit by parent or guardian if not employed or proof of SASSA/Pension grant;
  • Affidavit from the applicant confirming employment status
  • Proof of application for study at a TVET college (where acceptance letter is not yet received);
  • Proof of registration (where applicable);
  • Acceptance letter from college;
  • Accreditation certificate or letter. Only applicable to private institutions.
Undergraduate/Postgraduate – Compulsory Documents
  • Certified ID copy of applicant;
  • Copy of the recent transcript/academic records of applicant or official results if applying for 2nd, 3rd or 4th year;
  • Certified ID copies of parents/guardian;
  • Copy of death certificate/affidavit from existing parent/guardian/applicant is required (in case of a deceased parent/s) or when the other parent is absent Proof of income (payslip) or an affidavit by parent or guardian if not employed or proof of SASSA/Pension grant;
  • Affidavit from the applicant confirming employment status
  • Proof of application, registration or acceptance letter from Institution of Higher Learning;
  • Quotations for tuition fees, accommodation, if applicable; and
  • Financial Statement indicating the status quo of the learner’s account.
  • Accreditation certificate or letter. Only applicable to private institutions.
Pilot Training (Private Pilot License)- Compulsory Documents
  • Certified Matric Certificate/Grade 12 Mid-Year Results
  • Certified ID copy of applicant;
  • Certified copy of a valid Private Pilot License;
  • Certified ID copies of parents/guardian;
  • Acceptance letter or proof of registration from flying school;

Commercial Diving – Compulsory Documents

  • Certified ID copy of applicant;
  • Certified ID copies of parents/guardian;
  • Copy of death certificate (In case of a deceased parent) or affidavit by the learner or guardian is required;
  • Acceptance letter or proof of registration, acceptance or application from diving school;
  • Copy of death certificate/affidavit from existing parent/guardian/applicant is required (in case of a deceased parent/s) or when the other parent is absent Acceptance letter from an accredited Diving School;
  • Proof of income (payslip) or an affidavit by parent or guardian if not employed or proof of SASSA/Pension grant;
  • Affidavit of the applicant confirming employment status; and
  • Quotations for training costs, equipment etc. (compulsory).
  • Accreditation certificate or letter. Only applicable to private institutions;
  • Must be able to swim;

5 POSSIBLE RESEARCH THEMES FOR POSTGRADUATES Research topics relevant to the transport sector to be agreed between the learner and Research and Knowledge Unit guided by the TETA research agenda, to ensure alignment with TETA priorities. 6 IMPORTANT POINTS TO NOTE
  • If the applicant is below the age of 18 years, affidavit by the parent or consent letter from the guardian must be submitted;
  • It is the responsibility of the applicant to ensure that the online application form is completed accurately and that all the required documents are attached and that all fields are completed accordingly;
  • The TETA reserves the right to withdraw the award of a bursary should the applicant perform incompetently in the academic performance presented during the application process or if the learner is registered for less than four modules per semester or threeyear courses;
  • TETA will not fund applicants studying 2-3 modules;
  • If the applicant is accepted or registered for non-formal, part-time and online qualification will not receive accommodation allowance and book allowance (where necessary).
  • The TETA reserves the right to withdraw the award if the applicant provides misleading information;
  • The TETA reserves the right to publish the dissertation or thesis of research project at the end of the programme; and
  • The TETA reserves the right to not consider the application, if the applicant has already acquired undergraduate qualification and is planning to apply for another undergraduate qualification.
