Department of Science and Innovation Inter-Programme Bursary Scheme

The Department of Science and Innovation (DSI) and the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) are inviting students to apply for the DSI-CSIR Inter-Bursary Support (IBS) programme, for the 2025 academic year.

Eligibility: Students approved for or registered for full-time studies at any South African public university who intend to register or are registered for the following degrees:

  • Honours/4th year engineering/Postgraduate Diploma
  • Masters
  • Doctorate
Focus areas: The CSIR-DSI Inter-Programme Bursary Scheme applications are restricted to students whose degrees align with the thematic research areas indicated below:
  • Biocatalysis
  • Biopharming
  • Bioprocessing
  • Health
  • ICT
  • Indigenous Knowledge Systems (IKS)
  • Microsystems Technology
  • Mining
  • Modelling and Digital Sciences
  • Titanium (Manufacturing Elements)
  • Photonics
  • Water Research

Value of the bursary award per annum:

  • Honours/4th year engineering/Postgraduate Diploma: R130 000
  • Masters: R140 000
  • Doctorate: R160 000
  • Students will receive an additional R10 000 once-off laptop allowance.
